This module introduces the importance of standardized survey protocols for syngnathid research and monitoring. Syngnathids are difficult to detect due to low densities, patchy distributions, and effective camouflage, making consistent methods essential for generating reliable data.

Standardization reduces variation caused by differences in survey design or execution, ensuring that observed patterns reflect real ecological changes rather than methodological noise.
